Why travel...
I suppose everyone who travels has his or her own reason for doing it. But I think there’s a shared passion travelers have, especially the ones who can dedicate a large chunk of time out of their ‘regular’ lives to do it. It’s a commendable thing and I look forward to being able to do that myself some day. But even the glimpses I’ve seen of the world here and there has made me grow more and more excited about future globetrotting. There is something about it that pulls on my heartstrings, always making me want more. One moment watching a little kid play in the sand on the most beautiful beaches in Australia to seeing the swan-filled canals in Amsterdam. Even walking in the rain in Perth, soaking wet, but somewhere in the back of mind I’m thinking, Hey, I’m walking in the rain in Australia. And the people you meet when traveling is another stunning factor it has to offer. Hearing the various accents from around the world and finding commonalities with people you would have never met if you had decided to stay on that cozy couch watching repeats of Friends, which is also something I enjoy doing often. To travel is to heal and to travel is to grow. We have the eyes to witness the most beautiful things in the world and the heart to love every moment of meeting new people and seeing new places. Travel is the most breath-taking experience I’ve been lucky enough to encounter. If only words could do it justice.
Where do you want to go next?
Tough question. I remember one of the early conversations Bram and I had. I asked him which country he wanted to visit most. My answer? Russia. I'm not sure why. I think it's probably the architecture that intrigues me so much. Bram's answer is Australia. CHECK! Though it's a huge country, I don't think he feels like he saw enough, and I for one KNOW I didn't see enough. We'll have to go back.
